The passing of Ian Cordwell, Cave Creek’s former Director of Planning
CAVE CREEK – On the morning of December 18, 2019, at 12:25 a.m. the Town of Cave Creek and Desert Foothills community lost one of its most valued servants, as Ian Cordwell succumbed to complications from cancer at age 61.
For 22 years Ian passionately worked in Cave Creek’s Planning Department, and through hard work and dedication he became the Town’s Director of Planning in January 2001. Through his leadership, Ian accomplished many acheivments for the betterment of the Town.
Those that knew Ian best understood that he wasn’t one to take credit for any of the success afforded to the community through his actions. But he was always willing to take the blame in order to protect the integrity of the Town, and keep it moving forward to face new challenges.
People often state their reasons for moving to Cave Creek; and if you are one of those people that moved to the Town in the last 20 years, chances are you really moved here because of the hard work and dedication of Ian Cordwell.
Mayor Ernie Bunch released a statement about Ian’s passing this morning:
“Ian Cordwell was an integral part of Cave Creek’s successes that were manifested during his 22-year tenure. His positive presence and sense of humor will be greatly missed by Town staff and residents alike,” Mayor Bunch said.
He will be missed dearly by his family, friends and Town staff.
